The Badge of Honor Association
The Badge of Honor Association (BOHA) is a non profit organization dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty in Western New York.
BOHA was founded in May 2007 by Rochester Police Officer Justin Collins. Shortly there after, Rochester Police Officers Brian Phillips, Laurie Robinson, Thomas Minurka, Eric Alexander, Ed Bernabei, Brent Newpher, and Richard Waldo joined the BOHA family. Our organization is comprised of members of law enforcement agencies who raise funds for police surviors and through out Western New York.
BOHA helps to promote camaraderie and strong ties bewteen law enforcement and the communties they serve. The Badge of Honor Association's first goal was to dedicate commemorative plaques to honor those Rochester Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty. These plaques can now be found at the locations where our hero officers made the ultimate sacrifice.
In the begining, BOHA reached out to another Rochester area law enforcement charity, known as Law Enforcement Assisting Fallen Familes (L.E.A.F.F.). L.E.A.F.F. raises funds for officers who were killed outside of the line of duty. With their assistance in place, BOHA was able to raise even more funds for fallen officers, and even further continued the unification of the area's law enforcement community.
In September 2007, Rochester Police Officer Manny Marcano joined BOHA, and in November 2007 Officers Otto Harnischfeger and Tony Gonzalez were also added to the team. On February 21, 2009, the evening of the 2nd Policeman's Ball, Officers Jose Rodriguez, Mike Murphy, Mandi Wheeler and Ed Bernabei were officially added to the BOHA team.
BOHA owes a special debt of gratitude to The Rochester Police Department Chief's Office, The Locust Club and all of our volunteers. Without their help, none of our efforts would be possible.
